After years of practicing but not performing, and then intermittently playing in various groups and honing my craft, I formed the Verve Jazz Ensemble in 2006. My intent at the time was simple: play music I loved,

The Verve Jazz Ensemble, a group that pays homage to the past while establishing newer, younger audiences for the vintage sound of classic instrumental jazz, announced the release of their latest single, “The Odd Couple Theme.”

The Verve Jazz Ensemble is dedicated to making jazz accessible to a wider audience. Josh Feldstein, leader and drummer of the group, was born in Manhattan and began studying music at an early age. He later formed a trio with with saxophonist Jon Blanck and bassist Chris DeAngelis

‘The Odd Couple’ was a 1968 award-winning US movie based on Neil Simon’s classic comic play. It was later developed into a successful TV series. Both the movie and the TV show used the same catchy ‘Odd Couple’ theme composed by the legendary Neal Hefti. Hefti, of course,

The Verve Jazz Ensemble is a highly regarded jazz band known for its ability to blend classic jazz pieces with fresh melodies and syncopations. Led by drummer Josh Feldstein, the band draws inspiration from the hard bop era of the 1950s and 60s, which is evident in their compositions.

[The VJE] performed…to a sold-out house of jazz savvy music lovers…the connection to the audience was magical!  Our audience loved it.

The Verve Jazz Ensemble formed in 2006 and have thus far released six studio albums, their most recent titled Night Mode. I have not heard the band before. Well, better late than never as this album will be a real treat for jazz fans.

They not only connect the dots but also stay firmly between the lines of modern mainstream jazz.  The program here is split between smart, inventive explorations of jazz standards, often combo renditions of big band recordings, and originals from group members.
